The 911 service provided is similar to traditional 911 service but has some important limitations when compared with traditional 911 service provided with traditional telephone service. A 911 call is traditionally sent directly to the nearest emergency response centre and a call back number and address may be visible to the emergency response centre call-taker. With the Hosted Lync 911 service, calls are sent to a national emergency call centre where an operator will request the caller’s location information and then transfer the call to the emergency response centre nearest the caller’s location. Callers should be prepared to provide address and call-back number with the operator. Emergency personnel may not receive caller’s phone number or physical location information. Do not hang up unless told directly to do so and if disconnected, dial 911 again. If you are not comfortable with the limitations of thr 911 service, you should have an alternate means of accessing traditional 911 services or should disconnect the Service.
